Big Blue

Interactive Installation for the 2018 Seattle Design Festival

Produced in partnership with KPFF and Greenbusch Consulting Group

What does it mean for our earth to be in, or out, of balance? What are the forces that act upon our ecosystem causing the balance to continually shift? "Big Blue in/out of balance" is an interactive installation that recreates and explores the ways that various "actors" cause the life-sustaining systems of earth to move into and out of equilibrium. The earth is represented as a sculptural form inviting the addition or subtraction of a variety of forces and actors. Interacting with this installation provokes the viewer and participants to consider how we affect the balance of the earths life-sustaining cycles. What we can do and what is out of our control? What can we add? What can we remove? What can we do without? Forces acting upon the planet, represented using colorful boxes, are both user generated and provided within the installation for users to use and consider.

On August 24th and 25th, over one hundred people interacted with BIG BLUE in South Lake Union Park, Seattle. Many left behind traces of their passions, frustrations, visions and hopes for the future. The blocks left behind are a tapestry of how our human culture is in relationship with all life on the planet and the ecological systems that sustain us. How do you contribute?
